New Hair Products

I did my hair a section at a time and used banana clips to hold the remaining hair back.

I wet my hair with water form the tap.

After the leave-in spray I added this cream moisturizer

After wetting my hair I added this leave in  conditioner NEW (for me)

I used this gel to seal and "shingle" my hair.
Ok so I didn't totally stick with 100% natural products. I just haven't found a natural hair product with excellent hold yet.

When I used the Jane Carter products by themselves my hair was at first soft and touchable. Once it dried my hair felt dry. When I shingled my hair with just the Jane Carter's leave in and added a cream conditioner to the mix my hair felt better, softer, touchable. When I first shingled it, it hung so beautifully, but then came the shrinkage, agghhhh.

I would definitely do this again. Just look at the definition. It lasted about a day though. I felt like clay face on Batman. The episode when he was with the female doctor and she made him a shell and later he burst from it any way. My natural hair is like that. I can style it in the most beautiful way, but when that humidity hits it like outside or in the shower it's all over.

This is my hair with all the product before it dried.

Flat Twist-out Results

I flat twisted my hair in rows and then I did bantu knots on the ends.

Co-washing

I tried co-washing for about a week. I found that it is not for me. My hair felt really dry. No more co-washing for me. I did try a flat two strand twist out and it came out pretty neat. I will post pictures. I coiled my hair last week and wore a coil out for the week. I did not take pictures, wish I had though. I will next time.

Up-do

I bought this wonderful new clip at the beauty supply store. They came in a pack of 3 and were about a dollar or two. They start out round, however they do not retain their shape so after using it a couple of times it became really stretched out. I love it cause I can tighten it or loosen it to have a smaller or larger puff. It is flexible and glides through my hair.
Neat hair accessory.
It does not retain its shape.

I used a piece of ribbon for my updo decor.

This is new from Shea Moisture, it is similar to Kinky Curly below, however it is a bit cheaper and you get more.

Shea moisture left, kinky curly right; as you can see the consistency is similar, both are 100% natural.

I used this gel on the back and sides.

Upzing and Natural Hair-do

I got a new hair product from Wal-Mart. It is called an Upzing. It works wonderfully. Look below. I washed my hair and moisturized it and I made a section of bangs and put some hair "down" in the back and placed the upzing in the middle. Love it. I went back and bought a second one.

3 Strand Twist Out

I did a 3 strand twist out on my hair. I don't like it. I don't think I will be doing anymore at this time.

Cowashing

I've been cowashing my hair for the past week. I still wash my hair with natural shampoo once a week and condition, however now I cowash my hair daily with Suave Naturals. The wild cherry blossom is decent. What I mean is there are NO cones, ates, parabens, DMDM Hydantoin or probylene glycol. I got this idea from Youtuber Cynthiarf Series: AfroCare 101 pt. 1, 2 and 3. Youtube Video

It's getting longer

Rod Set on Natural Hair

I tried setting my hair on rod rollers. The end result was little rolls. The next day however it looked like coils. I will not rod my hair or roll it in manner again until it is much longer.

Natural Products

Yesterday I went through all of my hair products and I pulled out everything that wasn't natural. Anything that had cones, PEGs, PVP, fragrance, sulfates, you name it I got rid of it. I am unsure about the Ecostyler Gel. I did keep it because I got such great results when I used it and then of course I had to keep the Silk Elements shampoo because they say that only shampoo with sulfates can remove products with cones. I'm not sure if I will use it again.

Natural Hair PIctures May 29, 2012

Here are some pictures of my hair from May 29, 2012. The 3 strand braid out added some texture to my hair so that it didn't just look like an Afro, but I'm trying to find the method that works for my hair. As you can see it has grown quite a bit since January 2012.

Two Strand Flat Twist Out on Natural Hair

This past week I wore my wig. So the weekend before I flat twisted my hair to my scalp in rows from front to back. So my hair was done up in flat two strand twists in rows for a full week. My hair had just been washed so it was wet, I parted it in sections using a rat-tailed comb and then I added a bit of Ms. Jessies Curly Meringue (as a moisturizer) and some Eco Styler Gel (for hold). My hair was twisted beneath my wig for a full week. When I came home from work I would pull off my wig and wig cap so that my scalp and hair could breathe. Here are pictures of the products I used and the results.

I am going to try a flat twist out again this week. There will be some changes: I will use a different moisturizer and of course it will only be twisted down overnight rather than a whole week. I want to be sure that it is the styling method and not so much the product that helped me to achieve this style. This style gets two thumbs up for me!
